The Science of the Beam

How it Works

At MyCastle, we don’t use sand, grit, or harsh chemicals. We use light. Specifically, high-frequency pulses of photons that do the hard work so your metal doesn’t have to.

The laser operates on a principle called Ablation. Our fiber laser sends nanosecond bursts of light onto the surface. This light is tuned to a frequency that is aggressively absorbed by rust, paint, and oil, but reflected by the solid metal underneath.

When the laser hits the “contaminants” — the rust or grime — they are instantaneously heated to the point of sublimation. In plain English: The rust turns into a gas and vanishes into thin air.

Can laser cleaning reveal hidden damage?

Yes. MyCastle is not liable for pre-existing damage revealed by the cleaning process, such as rust holes, cracks, or structural thinning that was previously hidden by debris.

Can coatings be affected?

While laser cleaning is non-destructive to the base metal, certain coatings such as paints, chrome, and specialized finishes may be affected. The Client must disclose any known coatings before work begins.

Can you use photos and videos of the work?

MyCastle reserves the right to take photos and videos of the work for marketing and social media purposes. We will never film or photograph number plates, house numbers, or sensitive personal data without explicit permission.
